Simmons 10 rebounds & 4 blocks
The West Brunswick Trojans picked up the second conference win this week with an exciting win over visiting Jacksonville. The Trojans trailed for the majority of the game before storming back to take the lead 38-35 in the fourth quarter. The Trojans got off to a very slow start, down 16-2 after the first quarter. West cut the lead to five before halftime outscoring the Cardinals 14-5 in the second period. When the Trojans got up in the fourth, they never trailed again. Jacksonville made an uncontested layup as time expired for a 41-40 final.
Simmons had 9 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 4 blocks, and 4 turnovers in the win. When Jacksonville managed to get in the lane, their shots were altered by the 6'9 junior. Cedric had two turnaround jumpers in the lane with two defenders in his face, and made nice passes to cutters for easy baskets in the lane.
Simmons leads West with 23 points
The West Brunswick Trojans fell to the Pender Patriots 73-67 tonight in Shallotte. There were many lead changes in the first half until the third quarter when Pender took a comfortable 13 point advantage. The Trojans came back with easy baskets by Cedric Simmons and Trenton Burney. Simmons had a reverse layup for a three point play and a dunk during the Trojan run and helped West take the lead with a jumper just inside the three point line with 6:36 left to go in the fourth period. The Trojans increased their lead to seven with a Simmons dunk and a layup by Chris Bland with. Pender went on a 7-0 run and grabbed the lead with two minutes to go in the game. The Patriots held on and made clutch free throws to defeat the Trojans.
Cedric Simmons led the Trojans with 23 points, seven rebounds, two steals, two assists and five blocks. Simmons was 2/4 from the foul line and was double teamed for most of the game. He also had nice interior passing that led to many easy shots for the Trojans.
West Brunswick defeated New Hanover 42-40 in an exciting game tonight in Shallotte. The Trojans were trailing 40-39 and Cedric was on the line for two shots after being fouled on an alley-oop with 45 seconds left to go in the game. He missed both free throws and New Hanover had the ball. Instead of holding the ball and getting fouled, they decided to pass around heavy pressure from the Trojans defenders. Simmons knocked away a pass to the low post and came up with a steal. Simmons was there for the block and he picked it up with about 35 seconds to go on the clock. West called a timeout and Hanover came out of the timeout in a man-to-man full court press. Simmons caught the ball at midcourt on the inbounds play and made an accurate pass to a guard who made an easy layup. New Hanover then worked the ball around the perimiter until a Hanover guard drove the lane and had what appeared to be a sure basket. Simmons made a nice block on the play and the ball was knocked out of bounds by New Hanover with 3.5 seconds to go in the game. West threw a long pass down the court to Simmons who was fouled with 2 seconds to go in the game. He missed the front end and a Hanover forward quickly got the rebound and called timeout, only to find out they didn't have any remaining. Of course, they got a technical foul and West made 1 of 2 free throws. Hanover stole the inbounds pass but the desperation three came up short as time expired.
Cedric Simmons finsihed with 20 points, 14 rebounds, 5 blocks, 3 steals, and 4 assists. He was 2/7 from the foul line. The free throw shooting was the only blemish in his box score tonight. Simmons also had five dunks, including a spin move in the lane followed by a one handed dunk to put the Trojans up late in the second half. West Brunswick committed 24 turnovers, 9 of them coming in the last two minutes of the first half. Simmons was double teamed for most of the game but still managed to lead his team to a win in the conference opener.

Vallejo (9-1) topped West Brunswick 60-35 in the GlaxoSmithKline. N.C. State coach Herb Sendek watched prize recruit Cedric Simmons briefly. Simmons had 18 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks.
December 13, 2002 * West Brunswick at South Brunswick
The West Brunswick Trojans held off South Brunswick Friday night for the second convincing win this season over their county rival. Simmons had 18 points, 13 rebounds, and 9 blocks to lead the Trojans. 8 of his 18 points came in the fourth quarter, including a monster dunk that sealed the win for the Trojans in the fourth. Simmons brought everyone in the gym to their feet, even the South Brunswick fans. The Cougars didn't have much of an inside game because of Simmons' presense. Simmons had many blocks on jump shots and when the smaller guards from South went into the lane, it usually resulted in a block. Three of Simmons rebounds came on the offensive end. Simmons was five of seven from the free throw line, much improved from his dismal free throw shooting last game. Simmons had to sit almost three minutes in the fourth quarter due to foul trouble but the Trojans still managed to hold off the Cougars. The Trojans will play in the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Invitational from December 27-30. West Brunswick will open conference play on the 3rd of January with a home contest against New Hanover.
December 11, 2002 * North Brunswick at West Brunswick
West played North Brunswick tonight and won in overtime 49-45. THIS IS UNOFFICIAL: I counted 23 points and 13 rebounds.
He was very active on the defensive end, blocking and altering a few shots. The first play of the game one of the guards drove the lane and dished it off to Cedric for a HUGE dunk. A few possessions later he added another dunk. He scored the first eight points for West, then North Brunswick started triple teaming him every time he touched the ball. Cedric made some really good interior passes to guards for easy layups. He was getting hacked all night in the low post but the refs barely called any fouls. Cedric really struggled from the line, but hit one free throw late in regulation to tie the game. He had a couple of turnaround jumpers in overtime and it seemed like he had ten rebounds in overtime.
