Every year, prospects emerge on the recruiting trail late in the process and become hot commodities as the weeks leading up to signing day wind down. One such player has been Boca Raton (Fla) safety Brandan Bishop.
Over the last month Bishop has landed FBS offers from West Virginia, Pittsburgh and NC State to go along with pledges from Central Michigan, Florida International, Western Michigan and Air Force.
This past weekend, the 6-1, 200 pound senior was in Raleigh for his first official visit. He talked about his up close look at NC State.
“The visit was awesome. I had a real good time. I have grand parents in North Carolina so we spent Thanksgiving with them and then came over to State on Friday.
“We went to the game and that win was huge for the program. My host was Bobby Floyd. He showed me around the whole weekend and I tagged along with him. It was exciting because it was a big weekend for him, too. He had never started before and then he played real well so it was cool.”
This was Bishop’s first opportunity to see the Wolfpack and he came away thoroughly impressed with what State had to offer.
“It was my first chance to see State but I liked everything about it,” he said. I liked the team. I liked the coaches. I liked the school and I think the program is going in a real positive direction under coach O’Brien. I just liked the visit a lot.”
A couple of Wolfpack defensive coaches have worked in tandem to recruit Bishop. While they didn’t pressure Bishop to make a decision, they did let him know that they’d love to have him join State within the next several weeks. For now, the Pack is sitting in pretty good position for that to ultimately happen.
“Coach Archer is recruiting me and I’ve talked to coach Reed on the phone a few times too and he came down to the school a couple of weeks ago. I think they anticipated that I was going to take some more visits and they asked me about it. They just asked if I could make a decision before Christmas.
“I’m definitely going to take some more visits. I’m going to West Virginia this weekend and maybe Pittsburgh and some other places. So I still have some things to consider but NC State is at the top for me right now.”
Bishop had previously planned to wait until January to make a decision and says that may still be the case but he’ll likely just make his decision when he feels the time is right.
“I’d like to wait until January but you can’t sit around and wait forever because spots will fill up. So if I feel like it’s time to make a decision, I will.”
