"I actually committed today to NC State," said Christophe. "I was there this weekend for an official visit with Camden Wentz and we were both looking at mainly NC State and Louisville. On the way back we just discussed the pros and cons and decided that it was time to let NC State know we wanted to play there.
"We called coach McCollum back, and he was all excited. He even talked with my mom tonight to welcome her and my family to the NC State family."
Christophe said the Wolfpack players and coaching staff played a major role in his decision.
"I really liked the players," he said. "We didn't go out much because the students were out for the holidays so we just hung out with the players. Whenever they got out of practice we were just hanging at their dorm rooms. It was great.
"Another factor for me was the coaches. I love Coach McCollum... my recruiting coach. He's a real good man, and I have a great relationship with him. He came by the house and my mom still can't stop talking about how nice he is. Also, I really liked coach Horton because he's a great line coach. He has a proven record for putting offensive linemen in the NFL, and that success is hard to turn down. He knows what it takes to develop offensive linemen into great players and I want to play for a coach like that."
After a slow 2-4 start, Woodstock turned it on late in the year and finished the season at 8-5. They made it to the third round of the playoffs with much of the success due to the play of Christophe. Although recruited primarily for offense, he made the switch to the other side of the line in 2008.
"I play offensive tackle but this year I played almost all defensive end," said Christophe. "That was my main position this year. I loved it but then I stopped liking it so much once people started noticing me over there because they started running the other way."
Christophe chose NC State after considering offers from Louisville, East Carolina, Indiana, UCF, and Vanderbilt among others. He narrowed his list down to NC State and Louisville before picking the Wolfpack.
He stated that the Wolfpack coaches informed him on his visit that he'll begin his career as an offensive tackle.
Pack Pride will have more from Duran Christophe on his decision in the near future so stay tuned!
