Accolades: Ranked by ESPN as the #13 kicker in the nation...all-state selection...all-area pick...all-conference selection...Punting guru Chris Rafter's top senior punter in the country…recruited to NC State by linebackers coach Andy McCollum.
Stats: As a senior, Ward averaged 42 yards per punt while connecting on 6-of-8 field goals and 15-of-16 extra points.
Commit Date: 6/28/2008
Recruiting Scene: Ward caught the eye of the Wolfpack coaching staff after a superb performance at NC State's camp held last summer. He proved to be the most effective punter in attendance, getting great location, hang-time and distance on virtually every kick.
He committed to NC State shortly after landing an official offer from the Pack despite receiving interest from in-state schools Georgia and Georgia Tech, and he never looked back.
Starrs Mill Head Coach Mike Earwood says: "Chris did a great job kicking the football for us this year. He's reliable and very good at what he does."
ESPN Evaluation: Ward is a solid punter. He has good consistency in terms of footwork; a two and a half step punter. Even though his drops are pretty good, he needs a little more extension with his drop hand and arm. Gets a lot power into the football and gets good hang time. Doesn't follow through with as high of leg extension in games as he does in practice but is still very a very sound punter in terms of techniques. Demonstrates good concentration and reliable hands in fielding bad snaps and is alert in making proper decisions. Ward should be a very good punter at the next level.
