Class of 2009 Breakdown: Tight End

NC State addressed their needs at tight end by signing a bruising, blocking tight end and a quick, athletic pass-receiving threat. Pack Pride breaks down the Wolfpack's efforts at this position.

    Tight End

    Signees:

    - Anthony Talbert...6-4, 230 pounds...Winton Woods High School, Cincinnati, OH

    - Asa Watson...6-4, 200 pounds...Rock Hill (SC) High School

Did the Pack meet their needs based on sheer numbers: A+

The Pack missed on: Paul Carrezola, Arthur Fontaine

Pack had to work the hardest to land: Asa Watson, the Pack invested a tremendous amount of time in to landing Watson and had to fight off stiff challenges from Duke and Maryland before landing him in January. Watson was the last player to commit for the class of 2009.

How many may the Pack target for the class of 2010: 0-1

POSITION BREAKDOWN (NOTE: The information here is solely the opinion of Pack Pride and should be considered for discussion purposes only.)

    Asa Watson

STRENGTHS: Watson is an outstanding blocker that plays with a nasty streak. He is a good route-runner and doesn’t mind getting physical. He has above-average athleticism, reliable hands, and a great work ethic.

WEAKNESSES: Watson is undersized, and he needs to add a large amount of weight to compete as an every-down tight end in the ACC.

ACADEMICS: He projects as a qualifier.

    Anthony Talbert

STRENGTHS: Talbert was utilized in high school almost exclusively as a blocking tight end and is very strong in that area. He is a hard worker, has a good frame, and shows good hands on limited touches. A high-character prospect, Talbert's motor is always running.

WEAKNESSES: Talbert will need work on the receiving aspects of playing the position, as he is relatively raw. He doesn't have great speed, and he will need to get stronger while beefing up his frame.

ACADEMICS: He projects as a qualifier.
