POSITION BREAKDOWN (NOTE: The information here is solely the opinion of Pack Pride and should be considered for discussion purposes only.)

    Jarvis Byrd

STRENGTHS: Byrd is quicker than fast, boasts great closing and recovery speed, adjusts extremely well to the ball in the air,has solid cover fundamentals, and doesn't mind hitting. He should be a perfect fit in a zone defense.

WEAKNESSES: Somewhat undersized... fundamentally, very few weaknesses, just needs to adjust the mental and physical demands of college football.

    ACADEMICS: Question Mark

IMPACT IN 2009? redshirt is likely but if depth became an issue, could see time

    Dean Haynes

STRENGTHS: A great overall athlete, Haynes has great straight-line speed and impressive acceleration. He has good leadership qualities and is a very hard worker.

WEAKNESSES: Played several positions in high school so he will need time to refine as a cornerback. Haynes will need to add strength... somewhat raw now but the tools are there.

    ACADEMICS: Projects as a qualifier

    IMPACT IN 2009? Likely Redshirt

    Rashard Smith

STRENGTHS: Somewhat of a combination of Byrd and Haynes, Smith played several positions while in high school but has tremendous cover skills as a corner. He has good quickness and instincts, reacts to the ball well in the air, and has above-average athleticism.

WEAKNESSES: Smith will need to focus in and hone his cover skills. He has good quickness but ids not a blazer... will need to add strength.

    ACADEMICS: Projects as a qualifier

    IMPACT IN 2009? Likely Redshirt
