POSITION BREAKDOWN (NOTE: The information here is solely the opinion of Pack Pride and should be considered for discussion purposes only.)

    Ryan Cheek

STRENGTHS: Cheek is a hard-nosed, blue collar player, not flashy but makes a lot of plays. He pursues well sideline-to-sideline and has good instincts with a nose for the ball. He also has a solid frame and the ability to get out in coverage. Cheek is a high-character kid with a great work ethic.

WEAKNESSES: Cheek doesn't have prototypical height, and he will need to continue to work on his quickness.

    ACADEMICS: Projects as a qualifier

    IMPACT IN 2009? Likely Redshirt

    Rickey Dowdy

STRENGTHS: Dowdy is versatile and could play defensive end or linebacker. He has a tremendous frame and decent speed given his size. A playmaker, he's been productive on the field and makes a lot of plays behind the line of scrimmage.

WEAKNESSES: He played quite a bit of defensive end so he will need to adjust to playing in space at linebacker. Dowdy is also somewhat of a tweener.

    ACADEMICS: Question Mark

    IMPACT IN 2009? Likely Redshirt

    Hans Rice

STRENGTHS: Rice runs well and does a good job of tracking plays down. He doesn't shy away from contact and could potentially play linebacker or safety depending on how he progresses physically.

WEAKNESSES: Rice needs to get stronger and will have to work on consistency. He's somewhat smallish for linebacker so it will take time to fill out physically. He also needs to work on his tackling fundamentals.

    ACADEMICS: Projects as a qualifier

    IMPACT IN 2009? Likely Redshirt
