College Park (GA) Woodward Academy running back Juwan Thompson is what some might call the total package at the position. The 5-11, 212 pound bruiser has good speed and can take over a game.
All of that makes him a highly desirable back for many coaches -- especially those that utilize a conventional running game.
Thompson has received offers from Duke, Ole Miss and Stanford thus far, but plenty of other programs are considering doing the same.
"I went to Tennessee and Alabama not long ago," he told Pack Pride recently. "I went to Alabama last Monday and Tennessee was maybe around two weeks ago.
"Tennessee was for a junior day and Alabama was just because I was on spring break. Tennessee had great facilities but they never showed me the regular student life, the dorms, where I'd be eating at ... stuff like that.
"At Alabama, I saw more of that stuff instead of just the football things that I know they'll already have."
Thompson went on to say he would rate the trip to Tuscaloosa higher than the trip to Knoxville. He was also impressed with coach Nick Saban, though he didn't receive an offer.
"Coach Saban told me that he really couldn't evaluate me because we run a triple option," he explained. "So he'd like me to come to the camp so he can see something and possibly give me an offer. Tennessee -- they like me but they just want me to come back to camp, too."
Earlier in the recruiting process Thompson had been receiving attention from NC State. While he hasn't heard much from the Pack of late, he's hoping things pick back up.
"I probably received some mail from them but I didn't get an offer letter from them yet," he said. "I wouldn't mind going down to NC State. That would be really good, if I could go look at that school plus see the other schools that have offered me. I'd really like to get up there to see what it's like. Once I visit some schools like that I could start narrowing things down."
