Wolfpack is Strong With Baldwin

Pack Pride has the latest on Southern Pines (NC) Pinecrest wide receiver James Baldwin and his interest in NC State.

It wouldn't be accurate to say Southern Pines (NC) Pinecrest wide receiver James Baldwin is flying entirely under the radar, as he has already picked up an offer from East Carolina.

Baldwin has, however, gone without some of the accolades that other prospects at his position have received.

The 6-3, 190 pound does not have blazing speed (he runs the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds), but he does run solid routes, and his hands have made him an intriguing prospect for college coaches.

While Baldwin has heard from some of the schools outside the state most of his interest has come from the programs on Tobacco Road. Those happen to be the schools he has been focusing most of his attention on in turn.

"I went to UNC recently," he said. "It was okay. I'd say it went alright. There's a whole bunch of stuff they're doing to their program."

One month ago East Carolina became the first school to offer Baldwin a scholarship. He is keeping an eye on the Pirates and plans on learning more about what life is like in Greenville, but he hasn't felt compelled to make a commitment.

"I haven't talked to them since they offered. I think they're a pretty good program. I haven't been up there yet, though."

It was also about a month ago when Baldwin took a trip to Raleigh to attend the Wolfpack's Junior Day. How did that go?

"Yeah, I think that was like four weeks ago or so," he confirmed. "I liked it a lot. It was really nice. We had to take photos for a magazine, then we went to NC State and took a tour around the school and ate. We went in the locker room and then we left.

"I really liked their new facilities. They've upgraded a lot over there. I was talking to coach Bridge about everything, but I didn't have a chance to talk to the head coach."

The trip went so well, in fact, that Baldwin is ready to put the Pack at the top of his list.

"I'd put them higher than the other schools right now. They're number one right now," Baldwin said, emphasizing "right now".

He went on to say that he plans on attending a one-day camp at NC State over the summer in the hopes of earning an offer.
