"It was my second time going to NC State, and I really liked it there," said Laughlin. "I went up to watch a practice, and it went well. I like the coaches a lot, and the practice was really organized.
"Another thing is I like NC State's facilities. They are top-notch and you can tell they really put a lot of money into them."
While in Raleigh, Laughlin was able to spend some time with the Wolfpack coaching staff. He spoke a lot with defensive line coach Keith Willis.
"I watched the defensive ends work out, and he is a good coach," said Laughlin. "I could tell he knows what he's talking about. He played a long time in the NFL... he's coached and played on many different levels so he knows his stuff."
Recently Laughlin attended a practice at Clemson.
"I like Clemson a lot too," he said. "They are still in the process of building their facilities but when they are finished I think they will be pretty good.
"I also like the coaches there too."
At 6-foot-3 and 270 pounds, Laughlin plays with great intensity and his motor is always running. He's being recruited mainly as a defensive end but a few teams view him as a potential defensive tackle.
His junior season was cut short by an injury, but he still managed to produce enough to receive heavy interest from several colleges.
"I have a scholarship offer from Maryland," he said. "I haven't had a chance to visit them yet, but they are definitely up there if they were willing to give me a scholarship offer.
"It's hard for me to name a favorite. I like Maryland, Georgia, Clemson, and NC State right now."
Here are Laughlin's thoughts on some of the programs currently under consideration.
Maryland: "I like the fact that they have offered... besides that I don't really know too much about them because I haven't been up there yet. I plan to visit them soon though."
Georgia: "Coach Fabris, the defensive line coach, I like him a lot over there."
Clemson: "I like the tradition and the stadium... also they produce a lot of NFL defensive linemen."
NC State: "I feel like it's more of a home away from home. They've got great facilities and good coaches. Everything is on point over at NC State right now."
Tomorrow Laughlin will be back at Clemson for their spring game and the following weekend he'll return to NC State for the Wolfpack's spring game.
He stated that he hopes to make a decision before the start of his football season.
