Norwood (NC) South Stanly standout Detric Allen may not have been pleased with his 4.66-second 40-yard dash last weekend at the Scout.com combine held in Charlotte, but the reality is, on a very slow surface his time was one of the event’s fastest.
Measured at 6-0, 177 pounds, Allen has the perfect frame to grow into a college safety down the road and he displayed solid cover skills against some stiff competition in Charlotte.
Last year as a junior, Allen played several positions, including quarterback, slot receiver and free safety. He’ll likely project on defense on the next level and several schools have already taken notice. Pack Pride spoke with Allen and got the latest.
“I’ve got offers so far from Duke, Wake Forest, East Carolina and Wofford,” said Allen. It feels good to get some offers already. I’m also hearing from UNC, NC State, Clemson, Virginia and Georgia Tech but none of them have offered me yet.”
While State has yet to offer, they are keeping tabs on the rising senior. Wolfpack tight end’s coach Jim Bridge stopped by to check in on Allen a couple of weeks ago. While he doesn’t know a whole lot about the Pack just yet, Allen said he’s planning a visit to Raleigh at some point in the future.
“My recruiting coach for NC State, coach Bridge, he came by my school and he’s just let me know that he would like for me to come to one of their football camps this summer so I can show him my talents.
“He said they would like to see me a little more before they decide to offer. I haven’t been down there to State yet but I plan on visiting. I don’t know a lot about them right now.”
Although he boasts four early offers, Allen said he’s yet to settle on a top five list. However, his plan for now is to make a decision over the next several months.
“I don’t really have any favorites right now but as long as it’s somewhere in North or South Carolina, pretty close to home.
“I think I’d like to make a decision before the end of the summer or before my senior year. I don’t want to drag it out too long.”
