Johnson City, New York is home to Daquan Jones, a four-star defensive tackle with as much upside as just about any prospect in the region.
The 6-5, 285-pound lineman moves well for a young man of his size, and he has the strength of a college lineman, in spite of not starting a college workout regimen yet.
Jones spoke with Pack Pride recently about the recruiting process, and where NC State stands with him in particular.
"There's nothing new really. I'm just getting ready for these future camps coming up. Right now I'm just getting ready for the Penn State (camp) coming up May 2. I'm getting ready for that one.
"I know I got invited to a couple others. There's a Scout camp and another one I have to talk over with my coaches. I might be going to those, too."
Jones said he has received offers from NC State, Boston College, Maryland, Rutgers, Syracuse and UConn. While he hasn't had much contact with the NC State coaches, it hasn't deterred him from taking an interest in the school.
"I haven't talked to them much, really," he said. "I have to talk to the coaches but I haven't yet. I've just had stuff to do.
"I'm very interested in them. Me and my dad are trying to go down there pretty soon to check out the campus. I want to get down there."
NC State isn't the only school Jones wants to visit. Several other schools have hinted that they are open to offering down the road, and that could change the recruiting picture for him.
"I would like to take a visit to Tennessee because they've showed some interest. Florida's looking nice. I'm trying to go out there. Illinois is sending me some stuff and so is Georgia."
Jones said he would like to narrow things down to two or three schools by some point during his senior season at Johnson City.
