NC State continues to make inroads into the state of South Carolina and one of the latest Palmetto State standouts to land a Wolfpack offer is Bennettsville (SC) Marlboro County standout DT Thomas Teal.
A full time starter at both right guard and defensive tackle, Teal snagged all-region honors last year. At 6-2, 330 pounds, the rising senior tallied 70 tackles and four sacks last year while on defense.
To date, Teal has landed a couple of a offers with several other schools showing heavy interest as well. He gave Pack Pride the latest on his recruitment.
“So far I’ve got offers from NC State and Illinois,” said Teal. “I’m also hearing from Duke, Maryland, Northwestern and South Carolina.
“Coach Bridge from NC State came by my school and one of the coaches from Illinois came and watched one of our practices. I’ve also had a coach from Maryland come by.”
Teal had a chance to visit NC State earlier this year when he made the trek to Raleigh for the Pack’s spring game. He said he noticed the fan turnout and hopes to make a return trip for State’s opening game against South Carolina next September.
“I got to see the stadium and everything,” he said. “It’s a good school. They’ve got loyal fans and I like the atmosphere up there. Coach Bridge is recruiting me and we’ve talked a couple of times. He told me they want some big bodies that can clog up the middle. I’m planning to go back up to State for their first home game.”
Teal added that he’s also heard good things about Illinois. They are another school he has plans to see in the coming months.
“From all I’ve heard, they’ve got a great school. They love football up there and they’re looking for some defensive tackles that can run. I haven’t visited up there yet but I’m planning to go sometime this summer.”
So with two offers already on the table, is there any school Teal would like to add to his scholarship total?
“I’d like to get an offer from Tennessee. I’ve heard from them and the recruiting coach came down here. I’m planning to go to their camp this summer.”
Teal stated that he is no rush to make a decision on his future college but he knows exactly what he’ll be looking for when the time comes.
“I’d like to go somewhere not too far from home. I’d like a chance to play early and whatever one I fit in good with and can get a good education. I’d like to take a couple of official visits and then decide about midway through my season.”
