He's a big-time prospect as an offensive lineman on the gridiron. Scout.com has him rated as the No. 12 center in the country on the hardwood. Which will it be?
"When I get out of high school I'm going to go ahead and play basketball," said Cox. "[Playing football] just depends on how everything goes when I get in there. I want to see how this college thing works.
"Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech, LSU... all of them are recruiting me for football. Alabama and Ole Miss are recruiting me for both, but I'm only going to play [basketball]."
At 6-foot-8 and 290 pounds, Cox is a bull in the paint. He does most of his work around the rim, gobbling up boards on both ends and finishing with putbacks offensively. He really uses his body well and plays with a toughness and edge.
He had some problems finishing on Leslie at the rim, but showed deceptive quickness defending Mabry on the perimeter, blocked and altered several shots, and never backed down.
"[C.J. Leslie] was really good, but I could have played better and my team could have played better," said Cox. "I thought I played hard the whole time I played, but We got in here [that morning], and it's real tough to come right out and play.
"We were on the road I think 13 or 14 hours. It was real tough, sitting in a car crushed all up. It was kind of hard to come out here and get loose... we can play better than we did."
Where does Cox's recruitment stand right now?
"Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Alabama are recruiting me hard," he stated. "NC State has already called me too. They said they are going to offer me."
According to Cox, he already holds an offer from NC State, but it sounds like the Wolfpack haven't made it official.
"They said they are going to offer me already, but they want to see how my senior year works out," he said. "If my senior year works out they are going to let me know.
"I haven't watched them much in basketball so I don't know too much about them. That's why I want to visit and see how it is. I want to go look at the campus this summer... see what the school is like."
Cox has visited a couple of schools and one of them is his current leader. After taking a few more visits, he plans on making a summer decision.
"I just want to get out and look at some campuses," he said. "I'm going to take visits this summer and see what all of the schools are like. I've already been to Alabama and Arkansas, but I want to get out to the rest of the schools recruiting me.
"Alabama's my favorite right now. I've already been out to see them and they are on me hard."
"I plan on making my decision this summer," he added. "I want to go ahead and commit so I'll know where I"m going."
