While not a particularly deep year for quarterbacks in North Carolina, Tuscola (Waynesville, NC) standout Tyler Brosius has proven to be the cream of the crop.
At 6-3, 230 pounds Brosius has good size and proved to be one of the state’s top passers in 2008 by throwing for 2,356 yards and 27 touchdowns versus just 10 interceptions.
After getting off to somewhat of a rough start at Saturday’s Shrine Bowl combine, Brosius quickly settled down and hit on several impressive passes. Southern Durham’s Tony Creecy, the top wide receiver in North Carolina told Pack Pride, “that No. 22 (Brosius) really impressed me. That guy has a very strong arm.”
Brosius himself came away impressed with the talent on display and said making the Shrine Bowl team would be a huge honor.
“The talent out here was really good,” he said. “There were a lot of big kids, fast kids. They were all very physical from what I saw in seven on sevens. It was pretty intense out there.
“It would be awesome to make this team later in the year. It would be another honor and when you hear people talk about the Shrine Bowl, it’s highly thought of so hopefully I can make it. It would be nice.”
On the recruiting front, Brosius has added a couple of offers over the last few weeks and he updated Pack Pride on where he stands.
“I’ve got offers now from Pittsburgh, Maryland, Central Florida, Western Carolina and Elon. Getting those offers now kind of takes the stress off of everything.”
Brosius said he’s been busy this off season preparing for his upcoming tour of several college camps in the hopes of landing even more offers.
“I’ve just been working out and lifting, working and we started football three days a week with shoulder pads and helmets. That’s kind of what we’re doing there.”
One of the camps Brosius plans to attend is NC State. He has made a couple of unofficial visits to Raleigh and there’s no doubt that the Pack is a team he’s hoping to land an offer from when June rolls around.
“State wants me to come down and hang out. They just want me to see what’s going on. I was there for one of the spring practices and they told me to stand on the sidelines and see what’s going on. Hopefully I can get an offer from them because they put a lot of top names in the NFL. I’ll definitely be at their camp.”
So with five offers on the table and more sure to come, does Brosius have any favorites?
"Everyone is ( a favorite) right now. I don’t know who because it’s kind of early yet."
