Hometown: Sumter, South Carolina
High School: Sumter High School
Notes: Stephen Curtis had a huge junior season for Sumter (SC) High, as he led his team to a 12-3 record and an appearance in the Class AAAA Division I championship game against Byrnes High School.
Curtis finished the year with over 2,400 yards passing, 25 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. He added another 400+ yards rushing and 11 scores from his quarterback position.
Thus far he's landed an offer from Furman and has camped at Tennessee and Vanderbilt. He will camp on Friday at North Carolina before camping at NC State on Saturday, June 20th.
Curtis attended a 7-on-7 at Clemson today, where he impressed those in attendance, including CUTigers.com's Roy Philpott.
"There was also a lot of conversation about Sumter quarterback Stephen Curtis," wrote Philpott. "The 6-foot-3, 205-pound gun slinger was showing off his arm big time. Curtis has a strong presence about him, especially the way he stands in the pocket and delivers the football.
"He stands tall, almost Payton Manning like, when he throws. Most of his passes were very accurate, especially when he threw the post or on flag routes. Clemson isn't looking to recruit a quarterback for the 2010 class, but Curtis was definitely impressive in the 7-on-7 games."
As of now, one team sticks out to Curtis.
"I would say No. 1 is NC State followed by Tennessee, Vanderbilt, [South] Carolina, and UNC," said Curtis. "NC State is showing me a lot of interest, and I think they are close to offering me, them and Tennessee.
"NC State isn't offering any quarterbacks until after camp so if I go up there and show them what I can do then I feel like I can get that offer."
Pack Pride will have more from Curtis in the near future so stay tuned!
