Florida Back Enjoys Wolfpack Camp

Ft Lauderdale (FL) St Thomas Aquinas tailback James White recently made a swing up the east coast, visiting numerous colleges along the way. NC State was one of those on White's list and he talks with Pack Pride about his time in Raleigh.

Each year Fort Lauderdale produces a good amount of Division I talent, so college coaches are checking out the area almost year-round in the hopes of getting a glimpse of the area's top prospects.

Three-star running back James White is one of the city's top recruits from the class of 2010, and he was in Raleigh recently for NC State's football camp.

At 5-11 and 190 pounds White runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds. He is a polished athlete with solid size, good quickness and natural skills as a running back. At the Wolfpack’s camp, White was easy to spot during one on one drills and proved to be a handful for linebackers trying to cover him out of the backfield. All of those attributes help explain his lengthy offer list. NC State, Boston College, Clemson, Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, Rutgers, Wisconsin and others have extended offers to White, and that list is sure to grow if he keeps his name on the market for a while longer.

So how did his trip north to NC State go?

"It went pretty good. It was a very nice atmosphere," White explained.

"The day before the camp I went and saw the campus, the facilities and everything. Then the next day I went out to the camp. I was up in (North) Carolina for a whole week but I was just at State for two days."

Did White have a chance to talk to the coaches much?

"Yes, I did talk to them," he responded. "But we didn't really talk a whole lot."

White went on to say he also attended camps or took unofficial visits to Duke, Virginia, Wake Forest and North Carolina on his recent swing through the mid-Atlantic. Did any of those programs stand out?

"I'd say North Carolina stuck out. The coaching staff was just very down to earth. They were very cool people. It looked like a program on the rise."

White added that he has yet to formulate a favorite’s list. He is rated a three-star prospect and the No. 42 running back in the nation by Scout.com. As a junior, White rushed for 638 yards on 86 carries and scored a team-high 13 touchdowns.
