'It's All About Even'

Fort Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas tailback James White has already attended camps at Duke, North Carolina and North Carolina State and will also be attending LSU's camp in July. White is in no hurry to make a decision, as he'll likely decide after his senior year.

James White, the 5-foot-10, 200-pound three-star running back from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., finished his junior season with 125 carries for 933 yards rushing. He also had 12 receptions for 125 yards and a total of 21 touchdowns.

"I'm versatile," White said. "I can run well and I'm also good at catching the ball out of the backfield. I can do a lot with the ball and I'm always a big threat on offense."

White says he can bench 280-pounds, squat 400 and has a 33-inch vertical jump.

"I want to work on my cutting," he said. "I want to make a quick move and take off faster."

White, ranked as the No. 42 running back in the country by Scout.com, says he now has 15 scholarship offers but continues to deny a favorite.

"It's all about even right now," he said. "I don't have a top five yet."

White has already attended camps at Duke, North Carolina and North Carolina State and will still be attending LSU's camp in July. Of those, only North Carolina State has offered.

"After the LSU camp I'll start to narrow it down," he said. "That's when I should have a top five."

Early this year White attended the Michigan State spring game. "It was a very nice atmosphere," he said. "It was actually a very exciting game and it went into overtime. But it started to thunder and lightning and a lot of people left but it was still a fun atmosphere.

"I really like the coaches there," he said. "It felt great being around them and they are all easy to talk to."

The other schools that White has already visited are Boston College, Rutgers, Iowa, Wisconsin and Clemson. They've all offered as well as South Florida, Indiana, Minnesota, Tulane and others.

"Boston College has a great campus," he said. "It's very nice and they also offer a great education. The campus was just so clean and the surroundings are great."

White grew up following Miami, but says the ‘Canes are not recruiting him. "I love the swagger they brought to the field," he said. "They intimated all their opponents."

With offers from all over the country White says that distance and location will not be a factor.

"Visiting the Midwest and schools like Wisconsin and Iowa was different," he said. "It's just very different from Florida and it would be a big change but that's fine with me.

"At Iowa you drive through nothing but corn fields to get there," he said. "But the school itself is in a nice little downtown area. It was kind of surprising.

"Wisconsin was pretty similar," he said. "It was bigger though. It's a bigger town and campus.

"I like the Big Ten in general because they live on the running game," he said. "That would fit me pretty well."

The offense is something that has piqued White's interest in Clemson. "I like how they use their running backs," he said. "They do whatever they can to get them the ball and they said they could see me being like a C.J. Spiller-type back for them."

White also plays baseball (centerfield) and may want to double-sport. "It depends how well I do next year," he said.

He says he won't make a commitment until after his senior season.

White plans to major in accounting and reports a 3.5 core GPA and has a 1080 SAT.
