North Carolina's Top 50 Prospects: #41-50

After attending several combines, watching sets of film and speaking with high school coaches across the state, we at Pack Pride are ready to release our in-state rankings. Today we begin our look at the top 50 prospects in North Carolina with #41-50.

Pack Pride breaks down the top 50 prospects in the state of North Carolina for the class of 2010. Today we take a look at No’s 41-50.

50. DE Vince Allen...6-2, 250 pounds...New Hanover High School

Prospect Notes...productive defensive end for New Hanover that caught the attention of several colleges back during the spring. Allen is limited somewhat physically and may be a smaller school candidate when all is said and done. He has attracted attention from NC State, Duke and East Carolina among others.

Wolfpack Connection...NC State invited Allen to junior day and has been in touch but the odds of him being offered appear slim.

49. QB Deshean Townsend...6-3, 210 pounds...South View High School

Prospect Notes...Townsend is an impressive high school quarterback that threw for better than 2,000 yards and 25 touchdowns as a junior. He has impressive size but is likely borderline for an ACC-caliber offer.

Wolfpack Connection...The Pack has recruited Townsend and invited him to camp back in June. He performed well but an offer is likely a longshot.

48. RB C.J. Frederick...5-8, 190 pounds...West Johnston

Prospect Notes...Frederick is a quick, athletic running back that has attracted attention from UNC, NC State and East Carolina. He has good quickness and hands but lack of size may limit his division one options.

Wolfpack Connection...Frederick camped at NC State and was actually one of the more impressive backs in attendance. He would likely project at corner for State so that makes a Wolfpack offer unlikely.

47. RB Tamari White...5-11, 180 pounds...White Oak High School

Prospect Notes...Physically, White is one of the more impressive prospects we’ve seen this year. He is built like a tank and has good speed. He may have peaked as far as his physical development goes so that could be a concern. However, at the least he should land some smaller school offers before all is said and done.

Wolfpack Connection...NC State invited White to junior day and have had him on the radar for quite some time. It is likely that they’ll continue to monitor him but their scholarship crunch will probably work against him getting an offer.

46. S Peter Singer...5-11, 175 pounds...Chapel Hill High School

Prospect Notes...Singer is a jack-of-all-trades for Chapel Hill- helping out at safety, wide receiver and special teams. NC State targeted Singer and best friend Rob Crisp earlier in the year as a package deal and both eventually committed to the Wolfpack. Realistically, Singer will need time to mature and develop physically before he’ll be ready to contribute.

Commitment...NC State

45. DT J.T. Surratt...6-3, 280 pounds...Parkland High School

Prospect Notes...Very productive defensive lineman that recorded 107 tackles and 22 sacks as a junior. Interestingly, no one on the recruiting trail had ever heard of Surratt until he committed to South Carolina back in June. Since he was not scouted at any of the spring combines he is a huge unknown as far as where he should ultimately rank in this class.

Commitment...South Carolina

44. WR James Baldwin...6-2, 180 pounds...Pinecrest High School

Prospect Notes...Baldwin is a smooth receiver with good size and above average skills. Speed and quickness are limiting factors although he does run solid routes and is very reliable catching the ball. He does have a knack for making the tough catch. Baldwin currently has an offer from East Carolina but does not list any favorites.

Wolfpack Connection...The Pack has recruited Baldwin and he generated some buzz early but he would need a monster season to land an offer most likely.

43. QB Desi Brown...6-2, 190 pounds...South Stanly

Prospect Notes...Brown took off after being named the starting QB for South Stanly last year. He has good athleticism and a solid kid off the field. In 2009 he should put up big numbers as the full time starter. East Carolina offered earlier in the year and Brown accepted back in May

Commitment....East Carolina

42. LB T.J. Ross...5-11, 195 pounds...Southern Durham

Prospect Notes...Although somewhat raw as a football player, Ross has a ton of potential. He has above average speed and good change of direction. With his size and quickness, Ross could actually project at safety although he doesn’t necessarily seem comfortable operating out in space right now. He currently holds an offer from Mississippi State.

Wolfpack Connection...NC State is not involved with Ross although he did camp at State back in June

41. LB Major Bryant...5-10, 205 pounds...Dudley High School

Prospect Notes...Bryant has a tremendous build for a high school junior and actually moves fairly well. His change of direction is pretty good but straight ahead speed has to get better. Bryant currently holds an offer from Marshall but currently favors NC State.

Wolfpack Connection...Bryant camped at NC State and is on the radar. With a solid senior season, he could get a serious look depending on the Pack’s scholarship situation. He is teammates with fellow Pack target David Amerson.
