Suiting up for the Los Angeles Lakers, former NC State standout Ben McCauley was the surprise of the day as he scored 24 points and grabbed 15 boards in L.A.'s 85-84 win over the Toronto Raptors.

McCauley played 32 minutes, hitting 12-of-19 shots while playing primarily the forward position.

"I was playing (center) in college, and all I did was go block to block," McCauley told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "Nobody knew I had the skills to do these other things.

"It's a great opportunity. I'm trying to take advantage of it as much as I can. I just hope I can keep it going."

The Lakers' summer league coach is Wolfpack great Chucky Brown, who believes McCauley could fit L.A.'s system.

"He's a smart player who can pass and shoot," Brown said of McCauley. "He's perfect for the triangle."

Los Angeles returns to the floor today at 6:00 EST against Cleveland. A rookie free agent, McCauley will be looking to impress not only the Lakers but also other teams.
