One down, two to go

Isaiah Thomas took his first official visit last weekend to UNC and we thought it would be a good time to see where he stands in all the recruiting smoke that surrounds this fabulous lineman prospect. TSW was able to talk to "Puff" Thursday night.

While people may think the battle for Terry Hunter has been a bruising one, there appears to be one that perhaps is a true slugfest that might just come down to a signing day announcement. Isaiah Thomas has his final three chosen, and now he is taking the trips to get more information to make his final choice.

His first visit was to UNC and we asked the big guy how it went and what he learned. "It was great. I got alot of information."

Thomas had camped at UNC in the past and we asked him how this visit differed from his previous trips. "I got to meet the new staff. I got to get some personal time with the coaches who answered some of my questions. There was alot of one on one."

Isaiah also talked about his Shrine Bowl experience. "It (Shrine Bowl) was really fun. I got to play with some of the best guys in the state. I made friends with Mario Williams, Tank Tyler, Terry Hunter and Marcus Hands and a bunch of other players."

When all the top prospects get together, there are bound to be rumors. There was chatter of a bringing the winning Shrine Bowl defensive line to one school. We asked Puff if the chatter had indeed taken place. "Yes, we talked about playing as a group. Mario and Tank were talking to Terry and I about going to State. When I went on my visit to UNC, Terry and Marcus were talking about me going to UNC. So now, they are pulling in different directions."

The final three schools include Tennessee, which is scheduled to be visited this weekend. "I am going to go to Tennessee if the weather lets me. If I can't go, I'm not sure what I will do."

We also asked Thomas what he thought about the NC State coaching staff. "The coaching staff is pretty good. I have not met them all, but I have gotten letters from all of them. I want to be able to meet them and put a name with a face." Coach Cignetti is recruiting Puff.

The smoke may be awhile before it clears on this one. "All the teams are all about even. I want to take all my visits before I decide."
