Wilson: 'We Have to Keep Working'

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State quarterback Russell Wilson met with members of the media Tuesday morning. He discussed last Thursday's game against South Carolina along with this week's matchup against Murray State.

Obviously Thursday didn't turn out like the team would want, what were you feelings after the game? Were you frustrated? Did you feel like the game just slipped away?
I think it was a good game. The score was 7 to 3. It wasn't like we got beat pretty bad or anything. We just have to execute better and when those opportunities come we have to execute and we just have to do that in practice.

We have to keep working and getting better and keep focusing. It will all fall in place; I'm not worried about this season. If we keep working we'll be a pretty good team.

When the big plays were there to be made, they just didn't happen. Has there been a lot of discussion about that in the last two or three days in meetings?
You have to capitalize on the game-altering plays and we have to keep working on that. That will fall into place as the season progresses. I've got all the confidence in the world in my receivers and running backs and tight ends and offensive line so I'm not worried about that.

What did South Carolina do defensively to frustrate you? What were you thinking? Was there a time when you wondered why the offense couldn't get going?
I've watched the film several times. I got caught from behind a couple times but I was more looking down field. I wasn't running my fastest or anything.

At the same time, you have to give them a lot of credit. They played very good defense and they are a very good defensive team.

We have to capitalize on the opportunities we have and we fell short of them. We'll make sure we don't do that anymore. We stopped ourselves.

What was it like watching the NC State defense step up to the plate and play well time and again?
They did a great job. As an offensive leader I'll make sure we step up on the offensive side of the ball. We have to do that to help the defense and the special teams out. Once we do that we'll win some games.

Did the offseason talk about you needing to learn to slide and not take off out of the pocket make you hesitant?
I wasn't thinking about that, I was just playing the game. I made the right reads for the most part and I just have to keep playing quarterback and keep playing the game.

I'm playing the games, reading my progressions and everything and going from there. I'm not trying to slow myself down or hesitate at all.

What are you going to take away from the game?
The offense didn't capitalize on the game-altering plays that will change the game and get us a win. That's basically it, to be honest with you.

It's definitely frustrating losing and not capitalizing on the plays we should capitalize on but at the same time I still have all the confidence in the world in the guys who are out there with me. I have no doubt in my mind that they're going to make plays.

Does wearing a knee brace hinder you at all?
No it's fine. It doesn't bother me.

How exciting was it to see the young guys who stepped up play well?
We know we have a lot of talent so we don't feel that much pressure. We know we have to win. That's the whole objective of us practicing so hard and watching film. We know that we can capitalize on that talent.

What's the game plan for Murray State?
The game plan is just to do our best and win. That's the main thing. They are going to be a good team coming in here; they won pretty big the first game. We can't look at it any different; they are going to be a good team coming in here. We watched them a few times on film as well so I'm definitely excited about playing them.
