Speedster Holloman to the Pack

NC State continues to add speed to it's depth chart. The latest addition is Phillip Holloman, a defensive back from Lake Taylor High School in Virginia. TSW talked to Coach Hank Sawyer about his standout player and his commitment to the Pack.

Coach Amato continues to bring speed to Raleigh. He has reached into Norfolk, Virginia to get his latest speed player, Phillip Holloman. "He committed to NC State this weekend, and he will sign next week."

We asked Coach Sawyer to describe the future Wolfpacker. "He is a defensive back that runs a 4.3 40 /10.7 100 meter. He is very quick. He was the fastest player on our team this year and we were very talented. He finished the year with five interceptions."

TSW also wanted to know a little more about the 40 time. At Nike in Chapel Hill last spring, Holloman ran a 4.59. "Phillip was sick down there. He had the flu. We started not to even go, but he thought he would get to feeling better once he got down there, but he didn't. He is much faster than that. He has run a 4.3."

Phillip will also be used some on the return teams according to Coach Sawyer. "He ran back our kick-offs and punts this year. He averaged 16 yards per return on the kick-offs and 18 yards on the punts. He ran two punts for touchdowns and three kick-offs for touchdowns. People finally just quit kicking it to him."

Taylor finished the season with a record of 8-2. They lost to the eventual State Champions Phoebus High. "We lost to a good Phoebus team 27-21 on a controversial play in the end zone. We caught the ball and a Phoebus player took it away in the end zone. They called an interception instead of a touchdown."

Taylor High also sports two other D-1 players. Mark Jones has committed to ECU and Terrell Golden is a Penn State commit.

Virginia Tech and Penn State made a last minute push for Holloman but to no avail. Phillip is on track to be a full qualifier. He has an 890 on his SAT and currently maintains a 3.0 GPA.
