Matt James, a Raleigh (NC) Sanderson wide receiver, is from NC State's backyard.
However, the 6-4, 203-pound prospect elected to give his verbal commitment to Wake Forest in early August. James didn't hold an offer from the Wolfpack at the time, but is State totally out of the picture?
James was at Carter-Finley Stadium a little over a week ago as the Pack defeated Pittsburgh 38-31 in a thriller. What did he think of the experience?
"I enjoyed it except for the rain," James recalled. "It was a good game. I just went to the game with a few of my teammates. I had been to the State games last season ... all of the home games. I had toured the campus and everything, and seen the stadium, weight room and locker room.
"This time we just ate and heard the athletic presentation. Then we saw the Walk of Champions and sat with the other recruits."
Does the trip mean James is considering other schools, or is Wake Forest still where he plans on going?
"I'm pretty solid on Wake. I talk to the Wake Forest coaches probably once a week.
"I'm probably going to take some of my officials. I think I might be going down to Tennessee. I don't know, maybe Kentucky. I'm hearing more from Tennessee than Kentucky, though. They (Tennessee) haven't put an offer out or anything like that, but they've said they're interested."
Despite the interest from the Vols and Wildcats -- and Kentucky has offered James -- he told Pack Pride that if he changes his mind he would probably still like to stay in the state.
"If I changed it would probably be an in-state school," he said. "But it would take something serious to change."
