LeRue Rumph committed to NC State in early December but waited until the very last weekend before signing day to make his official visit to Raleigh. I asked LeRue to tell me a little bit about his visit. "It was great. My mom and I drove up on Friday and got in about 1:00 am, so all we did was sleep that night. But on Saturday, we had breakfast with the coaches. Coach Amato, Coach Cignetti, and Coach Demarest were there. After that we looked at the academics and spent time talking about that. Then we toured the new facilities which were awesome. That is the first time I had seen them. They are great facilities for a great team."
After spending a big part of Saturday with the coaches, checking into the academics and touring the campus and facilities, LeRue was able to hang out with some of the NC State players. "Brian Clark took me around and showed me the dorms. I think I fit in with all the players up there. It was a good time. What really caught my eye was how the players are close. Brian went to five different rooms and knocked on the doors. They all knew each other and were really close. It is a real brotherhood."
Not lost in all the touring and fraternizing was a curious mom. "She liked it alot up there. She had heard all the negative. She had been told it was too far from home and that it snows too much. But she was able to see my future there too. She has a great deal of respect for Coach Demarest and she knows her baby will be taking care of there.
While LeRue has kept his verbal soft in order to properly complete his recruiting process, the trip to NC State seems to of harden the commitment. "It is not official yet, but I will sign with NC State on Wednesday."
Rumph will have a signing ceremony on Wednesday to make it official.
