"I've started talking to Boston College too. They want to see what I look like... we'll see if that will be a possibility. I get mail from almost all the schools on a daily basis... I'd say they all are recruiting me pretty hard."
Checking in at 6-foot-7 and 270 pounds, Deboef lines up at left tackle for his high school team and says all of the programs are recruiting him as an offensive tackle prospect. He's tried to do a good job of managing his recruitment while completing his senior season.
"We're doing really well," he said. "We just won our district championship and have a bye this week before heading into the states.
"I think I'm doing a good job. I've tried to elevate my game, and I believe that I'm helping my team win games."
Deboef has taken an official visit to Purdue and that trip left a positive impression on him.
"The Purdue visit I liked a lot," he said. "I really liked the campus and the coaching staff. I also like the way they practice and how they stress fundamentals."
Does he currently have any other visits scheduled?
"Not definite right now," Deboef said. "I've talked some about going to a game this weekend, but I'm not sure if that would be an official or unofficial visit.
"I've talked with the coaches at NC State and since it's too late in the week to schedule an official I could take an unofficial there. I've also been talking with Maryland and I might go there this weekend. I haven't really decided where or if I'll go anywhere this weekend. It's still up in the air right now."
While Deboef remains wide open, he says the trip to Purdue obviously stands out.
"I don't really have a top group," he stated. "I'm just kind of focusing on those schools that I've mentioned, and I've only been able to take one official visit. Obviously the visit to Purdue puts them pretty high on my list, but I haven't been anywhere else officially. I'm going to reserve judgement until I take some more visits."
NC State appears to definitely be in the mix. Wolfpack defensive coordinator Mike Archer is handling Deboef's recruitment and Deboef feels he's done a good job.
"Coach Archer is recruiting me, and he's a great guy," said Deboef. "He came up and watched me play against Altoona and seems like a great guy. I like him a lot.
"I really like NC State. One thing that's cool about NC State is when I visited over the summer I was able to check out there facilities. I like how you go into one building that connects to the stadium, and it's this big complex with everything in it. They have the tutoring center, the weight room, the player's recreation center, training areas... everything you could ask for. Everything is in that building and then you get transported to and from your dorm. I like how everything is real close and easy to get to."
Deboef projects as a full qualifier and plans on majoring in Business. Does he have a timeframe for reaching a decision?
"I would like to at least be able to make the decision right before or around Christmas," he said. "If I know where I want to go by then I could see myself announcing a decision."
