Over 35 percent of NC State's scholarship players were not even in uniform today, as a whopping 16 players were on the sideline with injuries and another 14 are redshirting the season.
The injured ranks include: Audi Augustin, DE; Mario Carter, TE; Ryan Cheek, LB; Mike Glennon, QB; Denzelle Good, OL; T.J. Graham, WR/RET; Steven Howard, WR; Nate Irving, LB; Colby Jackson, FB; R.J. Mattes, OG; DeAndre Morgan, CB; Everett Proctor, QB; Jeff Rieskamp, DE; Rashard Smith, CB; Javon Walker, S; James Washington, HB. Starting linebacker Dwayne Maddox left the game with an ankle injury midway through the second quarter and starting cornerback Jarvis Byrd left with a knee injury early in the third quarter.
WILLIAMS LIKES ENDZONE
Junior wideout Jarvis Williams continued his trend of making his catches count: for six points that is. Williams, who entered the game leading the ACC in touchdown receptions, scored two touchdowns on seven receptions. For the season, Williams has pulled down 45 catches and has scored 11 touchdowns.
Williams is now tied for fourth in NC State history with 15 career scoring grabs. His 11 TDs this season is tied for third with Torry Holt (1998) on the NC State single-season list.
PACK SENIORS PLAY LAST GAME
Seventeen seniors played in their last game in a Wolfpack uniform today, including a dozen players who started versus North Carolina.
Russell Wilson threw for four touchdowns today and is now responsible for 56 for his career. That mark ranks third in school history, behind only Jamie Barnette's (1996-99) total of 74 in his four years and Philip Rivers (2000-03) had in 112 in four years.
Wilson has thrown for 48 career TD passes, the third-best mark in school history. In the single season records, Wilson has thrown 31 touchdowns this year, only behind Rivers record of 34 in 2003.
SPENCER UPS AVERAGE
Wide receiver Owen Spencer entered today's game leading the nation in yards per reception with a 24.42 average. He probably solidified that ranking today, with touchdown catches of 56 and 38 yards, and he averaged 32.5 yards on his four catches today (he had four catches for 130 yards). Today also marked the first time in his career that he had more than one TD reception in a game.
O'BRIEN 3-0 VS. NORTH CAROLINA
Wolfpack head coach Tom O'Brien has posted a perfect record against North Carolina as head coach of the Wolfpack. NC State won 31-27 in 2007, 41-10 in 2009 and 28-27 in 2009. The last time the Pack won three in a row against UNC was when the Pack won five straight from 1988-92.
Today was also the first ranked opponent the Pack has beat the season, and was the first ranked foe defeated since NC State beat No. 25 UNC last year, 41-10.
OUTGAINED BUT NOT OUTSCORED
UNC posted 481 yards of total offense to the Pack's 335 yards, but was the Pack that won the battle on the scoreboard. NC State was outgained by 146 yards, the largest such difference in a Wolfpack win since 2005 against Georgia Tech (157 yards).
The 481 yards given up today was the highest in a Wolfpack win since the UNC game in 2003 (550).
NOT TURNING THE BALL OVER
For the fourth time this season, the Pack did not commit a turnover. In all four games that NC State did not have a turnover the Pack won.
