Centerville, Ohio offensive lineman Michael Bennett has flown in under the radar thus far but the Class of 2011 prospect seems to have finally arrived as a prospect to watch.
Bennett, a junior and currently listed at 6-3 and 270, now has offers from NC State, Wake Forest and Duke from Tobacco Road alone, so you would almost think the young man was from North Carolina. The Ohio prospect also holds offers from Cincinnati, Indiana and a few mid-majors.
"My newest offer is from NC State," Bennett said in a recent interview. "I got that on Saturday or Sunday, so that's the most recent.
"I think my coach sent them my tape and they’ve been by the school a couple of times. One of the visits was during the season, but the last two times they've come have been after the season."
While Bennett does play on the interior of the defensive line at times for Centerville he projects as an offensive lineman in college.
While he plans on giving the Wolfpack a serious look when the recruiting process moves ahead a little bit more, Bennett isn't too worried about narrowing things down any time soon.
"I'm going to look them (NC State) up because there really aren't any schools I'm looking at in particular yet," he said. "I'm not throwing any schools out, but I'm not just looking at one yet, either."
Oftentimes it's difficult to pry the top prospects in the Midwest out of Big Ten country. Tom O'Brien proved he could do it when he was at Boston College, and he has continued to target plenty of Ohio prospects since he moved to NC State. Will location be a big factor for Bennett?
"If it's a good school then I'll leave," he said. "I don't have a problem with that. The education and the program are really important to me, and you can always go back home."
