The Wait is Over

Georgia Military College athlete Tobais Palmer talks with Pack Pride after making his commitment to NC State official last week.

It's been a long time coming. That's how Tobias Palmer describes this time in his life. Not only did the three-star running back sign his letter-of-intent to NC State on National Signing Day -- he's ready to finally make it to Raleigh.

"Man, it's been a long time coming," an excited Palmer told Pack Pride. "Ever since high school and then having to be in Georgia, I've been ready for this. I've been excited to come to State and see the impact I can bring to the team. I'm eager to get up there."

Palmer has stayed in regular contact with the NC State coaches, and he has developed very strong bonds with some of the men that will be helping him develop as a football player and a person.

"I talk to the coaches about every week. I saw coach McCollum just the other day, actually. He came by and checked on me to make sure everything was good. Everything looks good right now. I was up there earlier in January with a lot of other guys, a lot of commits. Most of them were for defense."

Palmer said some other colleges have tried to sway him from his commitment to NC State. He never paid them any serious attention.

"I've been sticking to my word. I gave State my word, so I'll be there."

The talented athlete will be in Raleigh for the first session of summer school. He has high expectations for himself coming in.

"As of right now I know I'm going to have to step up to the plate and take responsibility. T-Bake (Toney Baker) is leaving, so physically and mentally I've got to be prepared. Physically I've got to be ready to take on contact, and mentally I've got to be smart in my decision making. There's a lot riding on my back. I feel as though I can handle it. I made it this far."

Scouting Report: "Speed is the name of the game for Palmer, who could eventually play running back, slot receiver, and probably his best projected position of cornerback. Excellent burst into the secondary on plays to the outside, huge top-end speed, and overall solid acceleration through his cuts. In limited time as a cornerback, shows excellent hips and ball awareness. Willing to come up and make a tackle, but not enough time on the field to make a full evaluation." – recruiting analyst Miller Safrit
