"I called coach Archer and coach O'Brien and committed on Friday," said Burris. "But I wanted to wait and make it official today. The coaches were very excited about my decision.
"It means a lot to me that they believed I was good enough to land an offer. To be the first one to commit in the class, I'm going to help recruit other players so we can have a strong recruiting class."
The 6-0, 180-pound athlete starred at a variety of spots as a junior but is likely destined for defense once he gets to college. This past year he finished up with 86 tackles, two interceptions, and had two kick returns for touchdowns en route to all-conference honors.
He picked up offers from Maryland and NC State and had interest from Duke, Wake Forest, ECU, and Clemson before selecting the Wolfpack.
"I think he's a kid that can change the dynamic of a game in one play," said Broughton head coach Chris Martin. "He's not afraid to come up and fill; he's not afraid to put a lick on you; but then at the same time he can play the zone and breaks on a ball real well."
Burris is NC State's first known commitment in the 2011 recruiting class. Pack Pride will have more on his decision in the near future so stay tuned!
