NC State and Tennessee are the two schools that have offered Gainesville (GA) defensive tackle Thomas Niles.
Because of that, the 6-2, 253-pound prospect from the Peach State has the Pack and the Vols at the top of his list. That could change, of course, as other schools decide to offer.
In fact, it might be inevitable that it will change. It's still early in the recruiting process, and while he seems to have genuine interest in the two schools that are most interested he also wants to explore other options.
Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida, Florida State, Central Florida, Alabama, Kentucky and Michigan State are the other schools that are interested in Niles, so he has no shortage of potential options down the road.
"I'm going to visit Auburn and I'm going to visit Tennessee," Niles told Pack Pride recently.
"I'm hoping I can make a decision in May, or something like that. The biggest factor for me is going to be if I get to play soon. The only two schools that have offered are NC State and Tennessee, so right now it's between them two."
While Niles plans on visiting Tennessee he has already been to NC State. What did he think of Raleigh and the program itself?
"They offered me probably about a month ago now. They just started sending me stuff and it just went from there. I think I was at NC State the first Sunday in March for a junior day. It's a nice place. It's very nice. I liked it all. I liked everything there. I could see myself up there. Coach Mike Reed is the recruiter for my area so he's the one that I talk to."
Tennessee only offered Niles within the past couple of weeks, so he is less familiar with what the Volunteers have to offer. He's hoping this upcoming visit changes that.
As a junior, Niles collected 85 tackles and six sacks.
