Several sources with ties to the university say Fowler, top university officials and the school's board of trustees are working on a strategy that would end his decade-long tenure as athletics director. The sources say Fowler is being given time to find another position, should he choose to do so, at which time his departure from NCSU would be announced.
Chancellor Randy Woodson, a former Purdue University administrator who took over his new post at NCSU less than a month ago, wrote in an e-mail response to a request for comment: "As a new chancellor, I am broadly evaluating university operations. It's too early to discuss any administrative changes that may come from that evaluation, but I will be happy to discuss them at the appropriate time."
Lee Fowler has recently been linked with the AD position at Mississippi State. He has served as NC State's AD since 2000.
Fowler was reportedly at the Robeson County Wolfpack Coaches Caravan in Lumberton, North Carolina last night.
