It wasn't a new experience for Leslie, just a different one because official visits are paid for by the university. He originally committed to the Wolfpack back in 2007 and has made numerous trips throughout the process, even after last year's decommitment.
"It was a good visit," said Leslie. "I had a lot of fun. I've already seen everything on campus before, but it was good."
Leslie pointed out that one of his favorite aspects of the trip was playing pickup basketball with the team.
"We all played," said Leslie. "Me, Ryan, and Lorenzo... we played with the rest of the guys. That was cool getting a chance to all play together. Like I've said, I play pickup a lot with them being so close, but it was cool having all of us there this time playing together."
Leslie, rated the No. 11 prospect in the country by Scout.com, is NC State's highest-rated signee under head coach Sidney Lowe. A McDonald's All-American, the 6-foot-8 combo forward selected NC State last week after seriously considering Kentucky and UCONN.
"I made the best choice for me," said Leslie. "It's a good fit, and playing for NC State will allow my family to see me play.
"I feel like we have a chance to do great things."
"It is certainly exciting to bring a player with the type of talent and athleticism that C.J. possess to our program," NC State head coach Sidney Lowe stated following Leslie's signing. "He joins a very good class with Lorenzo and Ryan, and they will certainly be crucial in helping us continue what we have been building here at NC State."
"C.J. Leslie gives the Pack one of the top collections of talent in the country," Scout.com recruiting analyst Dave Telep stated. "Athletically, he has few peers and to stay home and play for the Wolfpack gives Sidney Lowe his biggest haul as a head coach."
Being a local product Leslie already has a strong vibe on the NC State program. He's familiar with the players and extremely comfortable with the coaching staff. Still, he admits it was good to be able to spend the entire weekend with the team.
"I would say that was the best part of the visit," said Leslie. "I got to spend a lot of time with all the guys... just hang out. Tracy [Smith] was my host, but we all hung out together."
Now that his decision and official visit is behind him Leslie turns his attention to enrolling at NC State. Projected to fully qualify academically, he indicated that he'll be enrolling for the second semester of summer school.
"I'm all good with my grades," he said. "I think I start school around the first of July. Until then I'm going to just keep doing my workouts and trying to improve."
Scouting Report: "One of the elite athletes in the country. Leslie is comfortable facing the basket and his jump shot is much improved. He plays well above the rim, handles well for his size and attacks. Super finisher. Has loads of talent and natural ability." -- Scout.com
