Central (SC) D. W. Daniel wide receiver Antonio Cannon is being pursued by Kentucky and NC State so it should not come as a surprise that the two schools that have offered scholarships to the rising senior are also at the top of his list.
The 6-3, 175-pound wide receiver had a big junior season, catching almost 50 passes for more than 700 yards. This year he expects to increase his number of touchdown catches from last season, and it's reasonable to assume he will. Boasting great size and built-in wide receiver skills, Cannon has become a major target for the Wolfpack coaching staff.
Pack Pride caught up with Cannon and we have the latest on his recruitment.
"I've talked to one of NC State's coaches (Jim Bridge) a good bit," Cannon said. "I've got a new phone and I don't have all of their numbers now but I've talked to them.
"They really started (showing interest) last year during football season. I think it's a nice school. It's a place I would like to go."
Cannon said he has plans to camp at NC State over the summer. If he does that it will be his first trip to Raleigh with the purpose of checking out what the Wolfpack have to offer.
He has already visited Kentucky on a couple of different occasions and is very interested in the SEC school as well. The Palmetto State is prime recruiting territory for Tom O'Brien and his staff at NC State, but Joker Phillips and the Wildcats' staff also places a high emphasis upon recruiting in South Carolina.
"I went to the game when they played Tennessee last year," he said of Kentucky. "I did that and I went to a junior day. I really like it up there. They've got a good atmosphere. They've been down here and came to one of my basketball practices."
Cannon said his favorites at this point "would be Kentucky and NC State" but admitted that is far from a solid list at this point. It could change as more offers come into play.
He left open the possibility of making an early commitment but did not have a set date in mind.
Cannon Focused on Two?
