"Me and my family have been discussing it for a while," Davis told Pack Pride. "I just want to go to a spot where I can get a better opportunity. I love the game and hopefully basketball can be in my future.
"It wasn't anything negative against NC State. I love NC State, my teammates, and my coaches. I told the coaches that when I met with them... it's strictly about my future and looking for a place to play. I love it at NC State."
Davis has yet to talk with any other schools or formulate a list.
"There aren't any teams," he said. "We're going to start pretty soon though.
"I'm looking more towards the style of play and what recruits are coming in. I want to sit down with the head coach and have a feel for the school."
The rising sophomore played in 31 games last season and averaged 2.6 points and 1.7 rebounds in 10.4 minutes per game. He will likely have to sit out this upcoming season but would have three years to play three seasons starting in 2011.
