Bridges Talks NC State

Matthews (NC) Butler defensive back Mark Bridges recently received a call from NC State, and he talks about it with Pack Pride.

Matthews (NC) Butler rising senior Mark Bridges is one of the top defensive backs in North Carolina.

The 6-0, 192-pound safety has been offered by East Carolina and Central Michigan. Several other schools, including NC State, have relayed to him that they are highly interested and may be offering down the road.

Bridges contacted Pack Pride to let us know about a recent conversation he had with an assistant coach from NC State. His excitement was evident and it's clear the Pack is in a good spot with Bridges, should they decide to offer.

"Coach (Jim) Bridge called me ten or fifteen minutes ago," Bridges said earlier last week. "Basically we talked for a good while and I told him how my track meet went last week. We had regionals and qualified to go to states. I let him know about that.

"I asked him about what's going on at NC State and he told me they're actually tearing up the field and putting in some new stuff. He told me he appreciated me going to their spring practice back before their spring game.

"He actually came by my school before spring practice. He's told me he sees me fitting in great on their defense. He wants me to play corner and I played there last year. Senior year I don't know if I'll play safety or corner but that's where he likes me. He said he can't wait to see me at camp. He thinks I can play for run support at corner as well as do well in zone and man coverage. He likes me a whole lot because I can play all those different things."

Apparently coach Bridge isn't just impressed with Bridges' ability on the football field. He likes the kind of young man he is developing into.

"He said he really likes my personality," Bridges continued. "He likes the kind of people I hang out with. He said he's proud of me hanging out with guys like that. He said it will come out in you if you hang out with bad people.

"By the way it sounds he seems very interested. Hopefully I can have an offer coming in soon. He also asked me about what other college coaches I've been talking to."

Along those lines Bridges has also been in contact with Virginia, Auburn, Maryland, Colorado, LSU, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina, though none of those schools have offered yet.
