Thomas indicated that he's on pace to graduate in July and the degree that he's interested in pursuing NC State doesn't offer. He's going to look at potentially playing basketball, but if that doesn't work out he's going to have the graduate degree he's interested in earning.
A redshirt junior, Thomas will have two years of eligibility remaining if he chooses to continue his basketball career.
Thomas averaged .8 points and 1.1 rebounds in 5.2 minutes per game last season. He averaged 2.1 points and 2.1 rebounds in 11 minutes per game during the 2008-2009 season. One of Lowe's first recruits as head coach, Thomas has battled injuries throughout his career and redshirted as a true freshman.
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State's Johnny Thomas is on pace to earn his undergraduate degree from NC State this summer, and will not return to the men's basketball team for the upcoming 2010-11 season. Thomas will be graduating in just over three years, and will pursue other opportunities in both a masters program and to play basketball at another school to be determined.
Thomas appeared in 25 games off the bench during his NC State career, averaging 1.6 points in 8.4 minutes of action. He redshirted the 2007-08 season after suffering a knee injury prior to the season.
Thomas was named to the 2008 ACC Honor Roll and the 2009 All-ACC Academic Team while working towards a degree in sport management.
