Though he has an offer from Florida State and a couple of other SEC programs Darrell Williams is one of the Pack's top offensive line targets for the class of 2011.
The 6-5, 260-pound tackle from Orlando (Fla.) Evans may be a realistic possibility for the Pack because of the relationship that has been built with coach Swepson.
"Me and coach Swepson have a good relationship," Williams told Pack Pride. "NC State offered me during the season, and ever since the first day he (Swepson) came to my school and gave me an offer we've been talking. He came to my school for our first spring practice.
"I really like NC State. I was looking at Scout or Rivals, one of them, and I was looking at the best recruiting classes for offensive linemen. I realized NC State's been pulling in some great offensive linemen. They had the fourth best offensive line recruiting class. With all the great players they're getting up there they must be doing something good."
Florida State, South Carolina, Ole Miss, NC State, Colorado State, FIU and FAU have offered scholarships to Williams. It might be a tall chore for the Pack to pull Williams out of the state of Florida, but the relationship with Swepson will help.
"I would like to stay close to home but if I get an offer that's better than what I have then I'll leave (the state)," he said.
Williams has not had a chance to visit NC State yet. He has been speaking to coach Swepson about the possibility of visiting the school sometime during the fall. Coach Swepson told him to give him a call when he finds out what his fall schedule will be so he can take a trip to Raleigh during his team's bye week. If he is unable to take a trip during the season he said he would love to take a trip after their games are complete.
Williams has been talking to his own offensive line coach about his summer plans. His coach will be helping out at a Florida State camp and that's one that he will probably attend.
