Hyattsville (MD) DeMatha Catholic lineman Kendall Patterson camped at NC State last week and says he left town with an offer.
At 6-3 and 272-pounds Patterson is an intriguing prospect because he has the size, strength, athleticism and explosiveness to be an impact player on either the offensive or defensive line in college. Defensively he probably projects as a tackle, and many believe that's where most of his potential lies, whereas he would probably be an offensive guard if he were to play on that side of the ball.
Patterson and the Wolfpack coaching staff had already built a pretty good relationship going into their camp and the rising senior talked about his experience in Raleigh.
"I went to the camp and they said they were going to offer me," Patterson recalled. "That was last Sunday. I had a good feeling about it. I definitely want to go back again.
"They (the NC State coaches) came to my school to watch me work out in May. We had been staying in contact ever since then. They wanted me to come to camp to see me do a couple of things."
Needless to say, the coaches obviously believed he performed well, as a verbal offer was quickly extended. The staff told Patterson that a written offer would be on the way.
NC State isn't alone in offering Patterson. Duke, Maryland, Michigan State and Wisconsin are other examples of Division I programs that have sent offers his way.
When Patterson said he wants to get back to NC State that was, in part, a sign that he is very interested in the Pack. It's also due to the fact that he wasn't able to see a lot of what the school has to offer and he wants to get a much closer look at what life at the school would be like.
"We didn't really get a tour of the campus," he continued. "We just saw the football facilities but I liked everything I saw. Like I said, I definitely want to get back there."
