Pack Still on Top For Grommer?

Spartanburg (SC) offensive lineman Stephen Grommer has picked up some new offers. Is the Pack still on top? Pack Pride has the latest.

Since the last time Pack Pride spoke with Spartanburg (SC) OL Stephen Grommer he has been busy with summer workouts in preparation for the upcoming season. Football is a year round sport and the rising senior has been hard at work honing his skills for 2010.

NC State was the first school to offer but since that time, a couple of additional schools have joined the fray with some others keeping a close eye on Grommer's progress.

"East Carolina and Maryland have offered me (since NC State's offer)," Grommer told Pack Pride in a recent interview. "Duke came by the school. Furman came by as well. Maryland and NC State came by to see me, too.

"We've got some other players on the team that schools are looking at so some other schools came by to see those guys. The coach from South Carolina came by but I haven't heard anything from Clemson."

Grommer said that NC State continues to recruit him hard and he's looking forward to his third visit to Raleigh this year.

"Coach Bridge has just been letting me know that they want me and they'd love for me to be playing for them. They said that they think I'll really like being up there.

"They also told me that they want me to come up to camp so I'm coming up on Saturday and I'm bringing one of my friends (DE Tre Kelly-Rice) with me. He's about 6-3, 235 (pounds) and he's really good at defensive end. Tre's been starting since he was a sophomore."

When Pack Pride spoke to Grommer last, NC State sat atop his list of favorites. With a couple of new offers now in, where does the Pack sit?

"NC State, Georgia Tech and Maryland are my top three. I would say State is still on top."

Grommer added that he does not have a time table to make a commitment.
