The last time Pack Pride spoke with in-state defensive tackle Shaun Underwood it was apparent that NC State had some ground to make up.
We caught up with Underwood again, and while the Pack is still in the hunt, they clearly have a little more work to do. The Fuquay-Varina standout does not plan on making his decision in the immediate future and NC State has maintained as much contact with Underwood as NCAA rules will allow, but the Pack's next great chance to shake up his leader board may come when he visits the school again.
"I have a really good relationship with coach Willis, the defensive line coach," Underwood said. "So they're in there. I have to contact them. I haven't been doing anything as far as recruiting lately. I've just been working out and focusing on the team and the things we're doing."
Underwood visited NC State earlier this year but he hasn't made the short trip to the Raleigh campus in quite some time. While he has a good relationship with coach Willis, he does see one downside to NC State, though he says it isn't a make or break issue.
"One thing I don't like is probably how far away the schools are," he said. "The weight training facilities are pretty much on one side of campus. It's not that big of a deal, though.
"You can tell they're trying to get better and they're becoming a successful team. I mean, they had a lot of injuries last year. You can't really judge them based off the season they had. They're doing a good job recruiting. I like the way they go about their practices, too."
Underwood said he may wait and take some official visits before he makes his decision, but also admitted that he could just make a spur of the moment decision.
North Carolina is thought to be the current leader for Underwood, who is currently ranked the No. 53 defensive tackle in the nation.
