From Hoopgurlz.com's DC/MD/VA Forum, "Tarheels Sniffing..." thread.
"Sports fans, UNC loses 6'1" Erlana Larkins and 6'1" Latoya Pringle this year; 6'3" Iman McFarland and 6'1" Rashanda McCants next year; and 6'3" Jessica Breland the year after.
Meanwhile, they pick up 6'1" Laura Broomfield and 6'4" Chalysa Shegog for next year.
They lose five; and they pick up two, at the forward/center positions.
We all know that the Tar Heels live by the athletic 6'1"-6'3" combo-forward; the more they have on the roster, the better the team they always are.
It would make sense for them to offer Miss Nyree right now--most national-level observers see her as a Latoya Pringle-type of player, with more defensive versatility, more raw athleticism, and a bit of a nastier on-court attitude.
In addition, UNC had counted on getting 2008 All-American 6'2" Glory Johnson, who ended up signing with Tennessee. In other words, they didn't get her, and they'll have to play against her for the next four years--if they want to get to the National Championship.
So UNC will need two 6'1"-6'3" combo-forward blazers in the 2009-2010 classes.
At present, most likely 20+ Big East/ACC/SEC/Big Ten schools, plus A-10/Colonial powers Temple, George Washington, James Madison, and Old Dominion have either offered Miss Nyree, or are recruiting her hard. She'll probably attend the college of her choice for free."
