Dickey -- 'UNC still leads'

<i>Inside Carolina</i>'s Clint Jackson provides an update with one of UNC's top targets in the Class of 2004 -- Marlboro County big man Ra'Sean Dickey.

With his junior season behind him now, 2004 PF/C Ra'Sean Dickey is starting to focus on selecting his college destination. The wide-bodied post player talked with Inside Carolina yesterday evening while he was watching the opening round of the NCAA tournament.

Dickey sat behind the UNC bench two weeks ago for the Tar Heels' upset victory over the Duke Blue Devils. Seated alongside future Heel Reyshawn Terry, Dickey took in the action at the packed Dean Dome.

"It was good. It was real loud in there and I had a good time," said Dickey.

A published report quoted the Marlboro County (SC) star's coach as saying that if the Heels were to offer -- Dickey would most likely accept the grant. We asked Dickey about the quote:

"Well, I just think it's better to keep all of my options open now," he said. "I'm not going to commit anytime soon, really. I am going to just keep it open."

And are the Tar Heels still leading? Well, he couldn't deny that fact.

"Definitely, the Tar Heels still lead the pack, no doubt," he said.

The rest of the pack -- Maryland, South Carolina, Clemson, Kentucky, UConn and Arizona -- are all recruiting the agile big man. Those close to Dickey think that he's likely an ACC bound prospect but that national powers such as Kentucky or Arizona might have a legitimate shot if they were to "increase the heat."

Dickey plans to tour again this summer with the South Carolina Ravens. And, as usual, the relentless InsideCarolina.com recruiting staff will closely monitor his progress on the court as well as his progress on making a decision. Until then -- stay tuned.
