Searcy Cleared

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- North Carolina senior safety Da'Norris Searcy has been cleared to play, a UNC official has confirmed, and will take the field Saturday against East Carolina.

Searcy was held out of the first three games this season while the University and the NCAA determined his eligibility status, as part of the ongoing investigation into the program.

He started all 13 games in 2009 at safety and had 35 tackles, including one tackle for loss, and had one interception and three pass breakups.

He also finished second in the ACC and fifth in the country as the starting punt returner, averaging 14.6 yards. He also had seven kickoff returns for 162 yards.

Searcy was on the preseason watch list for the 2010 Paul Hornung Award, given annually to the most versatile player in major college football.
