"I talked to Roy Williams over the phone," Ridley said. "He had come to school and watched me work out and he called me after and said he wanted to make sure I knew he was offering me a scholarship."
Ridley, a 6-foot-10, 250-pound junior center from Richmond (Tex.) Bush, also has scholarship offers from Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Georgetown, Utah State, Arizona, Kansas and Kansas State.
"They like that I'm fundamental and coachable," Ridley said of North Carolina. "They said they want to keep getting to know me."
Having spent his early years in North Carolina, Ridley, 2012's No. 4 center, said it's definitely a school he's interested in.
"It's always been a school that I've been interested in," Ridley said. "I'm from North Carolina and I've been following them since I was little. I like Tyler Hansbrough and I like how they played him."
Ridley has already taken a visit to Texas. He'll take an unofficial to Texas A&M this coming weekend and then Oklahoma sometime this month. He hasn't set up a visit to see the Tar Heels.
"I'm not sure yet," Ridley said. "I think they talked to (my) coach about that. "
As far as early leaders go, Ridley said the Longhorns have made an early impression on him.
"I really like Texas right now," Ridley said. "When I went on the visit they had a bunch of other recruits there and they made everybody feel like they are a family already. I like their coach and all of the people there."
Evan Daniels Scouting Report: "He has a good-looking big man body with a strong frame and a massive wingspan. Offensively he has moves on the block, including a go-to right jump hook. Around the rim he has great touch and he's capable of stepping away for a 15-footer. Defensively he's active and contests everything in his area. He works hard on both ends, goes to the glass and isn't afraid to mix it up inside."
