Euwell Cleared, Gupton Out, Burney Waits

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- North Carolina junior defensive end Linwan Euwell has been cleared to play and will make his 2010 debut Saturday at Virginia.

A native of Pinetops, N.C., Euwell was held out of the first five games of the season while the University worked with the NCAA to determine his eligibility status.

Brian Gupton, a junior safety from Nashville, Tenn., will miss the remainder of the 2010 season. He will have one season of athletic eligibility remaining.

Senior cornerback Kendric Burney was given a 6-game suspension for violations of NCAA agent benefits and preferential treatment rules on Sept. 22. Carolina plays its sixth game of the season this Saturday at Virginia, Burney's last game under the original suspension. However, Burney still has an unresolved issue related to the ongoing review and his status for the Miami game is undetermined at this point.

"We were expecting Kendric's issue to be resolved prior to the completion of his 6-game suspension," said Dick Baddour, UNC Director of Athletics. "This week we learned that would not be the case."
