Finally catching on

The trouble for Tech - as fellow Coastal contenders North Carolina and Miami await the next two Saturdays - is how the Hokies have started. They stumbled out of the gate to begin this season, losing their first two games and digging a hole that required a seven-game winning streak to escape. They've also come out cold in more than half their games.
Hokies have been slow starters, but fast finishers
The worry, though, is that Virginia Tech's luck storming back from such large deficits might run out, especially with road games against North Carolina and Miami upcoming. Linebacker Bruce Taylor attributed the defense's struggles - in the five games the Hokies have trailed early, they've surrendered 32 first downs in the first quarter - to youth. But he was quick to point out that "we always settle down."
