Womble, UNC Part Ways

Jamal Womble is no longer a North Carolina verbal commitment.

"These last few weeks, a lot of schools have been interested in me, and I talked it over with my family and there's no reason not to listen to other people," Womble said. "It's not an issue with North Carolina calling and saying they don't have a scholarship or anything like that. This is 100-percent my decision."

After three semesters at UNC, Womble, a red-shirt sophomore, became academically ineligible and transferred to Hutchinson (Kan.) CC. He was informed in October that he cleared UNC admissions.

"Academically, everything is fine," Womble said. "It's just that I was at Carolina once and maybe this is a chance for me to go somewhere else and start off new."

Womble is in the early stages of his re-recruitment. However, he says schools that have inquired about him include Alabama, LSU, and Oregon.

"Even if I don't go back to North Carolina, I'm going to be a Tar Heel until the day I die," Womble said.

Womble plans to take official visits and then enroll at his chosen school in January.

"I'm just going to take it day by day," Womble said.
