Romero Switches Commitment

Daquan Romero de-committed from North Carolina and verbally committed to Virginia on Monday.

"I've been thinking about it for a while now," Romero said. "I wasn't really feeling the love from UNC that I was feeling from UVa."

Originally, Romero, a 6-foot, 209-pound linebacker from Hampton (Va.) Phoebus, verbally committed to UNC in mid-May.

"Before I committed, they were recruiting me hard," Romero said. "After I committed, it felt like they got me so they really didn't need to show me interest. I heard from them, but it wasn't like UVa. If I'm going somewhere, I want to feel like they want me to come instead of they got me."

Romero spoke to Ken Browning, his UNC recruiter, on Monday evening.

"I could hear it in his voice that he was upset," Romero said. "But he wished me well and he apologized about the misunderstanding. It was a respectable conversation."

Romero says the only school he plans on officially visiting now is Virginia.
