UNC Re-Enters Picture for Lee

North Carolina has restarted its recruiting efforts with Vad Lee, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound quarterback who committed to Georgia Tech in August.

"They let up for a while, but they've been keeping in contact with me," Lee said of the Tar Heel staff.

Since mid-July, UNC has had two quarterbacks verbally committed – Everett Golson and Marquise Williams. Golson, though, de-committed last week and Williams has been wavering.

"I haven't done too much thinking about [UNC] since I'm in my football season right now," Lee said. "But it's an intriguing situation. But I haven't given too much thought into it."

Lee will lead Durham (N.C.) Hillside, which is 15-0, into the NCHSAA 4A State Championship game on Saturday against Mocksville (N.C.) Davie County.

"I feel pretty good," Lee said. "They have a lot of confidence and we have the same record in the playoffs. But I feel pretty good, because I have a lot of great weapons on my team."

Ken Browning, who recruits Lee for UNC, attended Hillside's semifinal victory on Friday.

"I talked to [Browning] for a little bit," Lee said. "He was just happy that we made it to the state championship, since he's a Durham guy."

Once he returns from the Shrine Bowl on Dec. 18, Lee will give his recruitment serious attention.

"I think I'll probably visit other schools just to weigh my options and to compare to make sure I'm making the right choice in Georgia Tech," Lee said.

The only official visit Lee has scheduled is with Georgia Tech during the weekend of Jan. 7. He said he's also considering officially visiting UNC and NC State, among others.

In addition to Browning, Lee is being recruited by UNC verbal commitment T.J. Thorpe.

"T.J. Thorpe, he always has a mouthful in my ear," Lee said. "And I'm going to be with him for a whole week next week for the Shrine Bowl."

Lee elected to keep the details of his conversations with Thorpe "in house."

"[Thorpe] is one of my closest friends," Lee said. "It is what it is."

Lee was invited to attend the UNC-Kentucky basketball game last Saturday, but was unable make it.

"It was a late notice," Lee said. "T.J. called me around ten [and] the basketball game was at 12.

"I would have loved to have gone, because it was a good game. I actually watched it on TV [and] I was like ‘Man, I could have been there.'"
